This past weekend was a pretty good mix of getting stuff done and doing a bunch of nothing.
Friday night – couldn’t get off the couch due to eating too much dinner
Saturday morning – bike ride around the neighborhood
Saturday afternoon – working at the Loft
Saturday night – couldn’t get off the couch due to being supremely lazy
Sunday morning – 15 mile bike ride with new friend Lindsay
Sunday afternoon – married stuff: Target, World Market, Groceries
Sunday night – Grilled steaks and spicy potatoes
Next weekend we’ll be fishing for red’s with mom and dad. Send lots of good fishing vibes our way!

Looks a little something like this:
Mike waiting to get in to his night habitat to eat.
Close enough to touch. I didn’t.
(P.S. still can’t find my camera charger, sorry for the bad phone picture quality)
Good kitty.
And now we eat. YUM.

It’s hard to believe that a year ago we did this:
and then all this
But here we are.
One year in and at least another to go. If I could just get past all this hot, I think I would be ok.
Maybe I should hibernate until October?

Oh man. This was a good one.
Friday night I met my fellow VSSO (Vet School Significant Other), Mollye, at the Bulldog for drinks while the boys dealt with horses and dogs and such at school. We treated ourselves to spinach and artichoke dip and mozzarella sticks before calling it a night.
Saturday, we hung out again, this time with boys in tow, at the Abita Brewery in Abita Springs. After an early dinner at the Abita Brew Pub, we headed home to veg out for the night.
The actual brewery tour part of the brewery tour, also known as the part no one cares about.
The reason you drive to Abita Springs.
Sunday I got the chance to take my new bike (have I told you about my new bike yet? Its awesome) out for a spin on River Road. I met 2 of Patrick’s students for an 11 mile loop by the levee and the bike rode like a charm. Now if only it would stop raining so I could ride it again.
Patrick worked a tech shift at the vet school so I puttered around the house and did chores. We were extra lazy for the rest of the night.
The perfect mix of fun times, down time, action, and inertia.

Since I was apparently lazy on the reading front this month (not true by the way…Drums of Autumn was almost 1,000 pages but I didn’t finish it until early June)…I give you this one sentence about The Carrie Diaries.
14. Read 50 books in 2011, 2012, 2013 (22/150)
(22.) The Carrie Diaries
As a prequel to Sex In The City, it’s ok, as a stand alone book, it’s pretty freaking boring until the end.
Jun
Not a lot happened on the goals front this month. It was one of those things where I felt super busy every week, but looking back, I’m not really sure what all I did.
For instance, I’m fairly sure that I finished more than 1 book this month, but I have no recollection of any others. I guess if a book didn’t make a big enough impression on me to remember it, it doesn’t count?
So according to my faulty memory, here is the only book I read (and finished) in May:
14. Read 50 books in 2011, 2012, 2013 (22/150)
(22.) The Carrie Diaries
We did make progress on some other goals besides reading (I say “we” because Patrick did the work here, but I’m still counting it)
71. Refurbish 2 pieces of furniture (1/2)
(1.) Turquoise Dresser
And then of course, this happened auto-magically:
42. Contribute monthly to IRA (5/33)
Can I retire yet?

This little guy started life as my dad’s childhood dresser. It was that lovely mid-century orange-brown mixture.
I painted it black before I moved into my first apartment post college, my mom painted it cream while I was recovering from having my wisdom teeth removed, and a few weeks ago, Patrick painted it turquoise for fun.
Our house needs more whimsy. We’re working on it.

I thought about abusing the powers of WordPress and back-dating these posts and pretending like I’m not putting these weekend in review posts up 3 weeks late. But that would be wrong, and if I know one thing for certain, it is that I am never wrong.
Let’s do a rundown of the last three weekends, shall we?
Week of 5/20:
Patrick’s birthday was on Friday, and now at 27 he is officially old. (Until November, when 27 magically doesn’t seem old anymore.)
We did our usual Five Guys burger and fries dinner (always a good time), and followed that up with the latest Pirates of the Caribbean. Remember how the first Pirates was so different than any other movies, with a unique feel, lots of humor, and a story that kept you on the edge of your seat? Yeah, this one was nothing like that.
Saturday we prepped for a big cookout at the house with all our friends. Typically, I was still fixing my hair when the first people showed up, but in my defense, they were early. We told people to come around 4 and really didn’t expect anyone until after 5. Imagine my surprise when there was a knock on the door at 3:45.
None the less, we had a great group of friends come over to hang out. Before long all the guitars made their way to the back yard, the burgers and hotdogs disappeared, drinks flowed and Patrick’s candles melted into little puddles of wax on top of his cake. It was a good party.
Fortunately, the party didn’t stop for us the next day. There were leftovers to spare, so in between flipping sides in the sun, Patrick and I put down a few more burgers. It was a good day. I even have a picture:
Onwards to Memorial Day weekend. I can sum it up like this:
Saturday: Pool
Sunday: Pool
Monday: Pool
That was easy.
This most recent weekend, was equally un-exciting.
Friday night Patrick was a little under the weather, so I read a book while he slept on the couch.
Saturday morning I watched Beauty and the Beast while Patrick worked on patients. I spent all of the afternoon and most of the evening working at the Loft. We vegged in front of the TV for the remainder of the evening.
Sunday, I met Paige and her best friend Barbara at the Louisiana Art & Science Museum downtown to see an exhibit called Cut! Costume and the Cinema. It featured period costumes from movies like Sherlock Holmes, The Duchess, Pirates of the Caribbean, Ever After, Neverland, Mrs. Dalloway and so on. The costumes weren’t behind glass, but of course they didn’t want you touching them, which I struggled with mightily. Oh, and it was 101 degrees, so I bought myself a huge snoball on the way home. Watermelon and raspberry. Delicious.
All caught up now? Wonderful. Let’s do this again next Monday.
